What is Depression?

Depression is a known term that generally refers to everything from feeling unhappy and cranky to major depressive episodes marked by an inability to perform. There are different levels of disorders, such as major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and atypical depression, to name a few.

Each of these disorders results in extreme distress and an incapacity to function daily. Some people may experience short-term gain without treatment, but these disorders often require treatments, including therapy and medications. If left untreated, depression can lead to suicide.
